Sword slays Tug Valley for 23 points, but Lady Billies fall

MAN — The Man High School girls’ basketball team dropped to 10-6 on the season with Monday night’s 65-54 loss at home to Class A sectional foe Tug Valley at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.

Tug Valley improved to 9-7 with the win and gained a season series split with the Lady Billies. The Lady Panthers had lost 67-51 at home to Man on Jan. 24.

Summer Sword paced Man as she had a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Mika McCoy also reached double figures in scoring with 14 points for Man.

Taylor Whited added eight points, Morgan Conn seven and freshman Hannah Harvey two.

Andrea Vance exploded for 32 points for the Lady Panthers. Hanna Armstrong had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Tug Valley led 15-7 after one quarter, 27-16 at the half and 46-38 after three. TVHS then outscored Man 19-16 in the fourth to set the final score.

Man has four games left in the regular season, beginning with Tuesday night’s home game with Mount View. The Lady Billies are then slated to host Class AA No. 1-ranked Westside (15-1) on Wednedsay at 7 p.m., before playing host to Greater Beckley Christian on Feb. 11. The regular season final is Feb. 12 at Charleston Catholic.
