The Chapmanville Regional and Man High School boys’ basketball teams both hit the road for long away trips on Tuesday night.

Both came away on the losing end as the Tigers lost 69-59 at Nicholas County and Man fell 90-62 at Valley Fayette in the first round of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament, an event comprised of Class A schools.

Chapmanville dropped to 8-6 on the season with the loss.

Mackenzie Martin, the leading scorer in the Cardinal Conference, dropped in 24 points to lead the Tigers. Kenny Plumley tallied 19 points for Chapmanville.

Nicholas County gained a split with CRHS in the season series. The Tigers had beaten the Grizzlies 80-54 on Jan. 19 at home.

The Tigers are scheduled to host Class AA Cardinal Conference rival Scott on Friday night. Chapmanville lost 63-51 at Scott in the previous meeting between the two schools this season. The Tigers currently stand at 3-3 in league play.

Chapmanville then plays at Poca on Feb. 5, hosts Tolsia on Feb. 8 and goes to Mingo Central on Feb. 12.

Man dropped to 4-12 on the season with the loss at Valley Fayette in the WVHIT. Valley raced out to a 31-12 first quarter lead and never looked back.

Jake Adkins pitched in 22 points to lead the Hillbillies.

Man is scheduled to return to action on Thursday night at home against Greater Beckley Christian in a makeup game. The game was originally scheduled for last Friday night but was called off due to the snowstorm.

Man then is set to play at Midland Trail in the WVHIT on Friday night, Feb. 1.
