LENORE — Veterans are being encouraged to attend the Open House and Enrollment Fair at the Lenore VA Outreach Clinic on Thursday, November 1, from 1-3 p.m. The event will offer area veterans an opportunity to visit the new clinic location and meet the clinic physician, Dr. Manolo Tampoya, and support staff.

Veterans who have not enrolled for VA health care will be able to assess their eligibility for care. Veterans wanting to enroll will need to bring their military discharge papers (DD214).

The Chapmanville VA Clinic relocated to 2865 Route 65 in Lenore on October 1. The clinic is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Veterans who have questions about eligibility and enrollment may contact the enrollment office at the Huntington VA Medical Center at 304-429-6741, ext. 3459, 2490 or 2496, or toll free 800-824-8277. Veterans may contact the Lenore VA Clinic directly at 304-475-3000.

Just as a point of interest. The original Veterans Outreach Center was thought of and originated with Vietnam Veterans. Again I'am not opposed to moving the Center to Lenore. Lord knows those guys need help as much as anyone else. The Original Vet Center was established because of an attachment to the HUD Bill in 1988. Senator Byrd did the attachment because that was the only way the Veterans Administration would put the facility in place. I think we owe it to the Vietnam Vets that went to Washington, D.C. and talked with Senator Byrd to get the original bill passed to ask the question. If the law has not been changed then I suggest it might illegal to not keep a center in Logan. Also the Logan Vet Center set the precedent for all the other Out Stations in the Nation. This is not a complaint, just a question. Thanks, Martha
