WILLIAMSON — Nothing says a great lunch like pinto beans and cornbread and the GFWC Williamson Woman's Club is acting upon the Tug Valley's love of this traditional meal by making it the center of the group's annual scholarship fundraiser.

The club's annual bean luncheon is set for Friday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Williamson. The homecooked meal, prepared by members of the Woman's Club, will feature pinto beans, cornbread, slaw and dessert for $5. Those purchasing the meals will have the option of dining in or taking them to go. Delivery service will be available if arrangements are made prior to Nov. 6.

For more than a decade Woman's Club members have hosted the bean luncheon as a means to provide a $1,000 scholarship each year to local students attending Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

"The Woman's Club is a volunteer organization whose members spend a great deal of time working in all aspects of our community," said Ann Lipps, club president. "Our scholarship fund is an important part of our organization and a great way to help young people in our area reach their goals and have a brighter future."

Lipps said club members really appreciate the support the event has received over the years.

"Without local businesses and individuals buying our bean dinners, we couldn't support our fund."

Anyone wishing to purchase tickets for the bean luncheon may do so by contacting any member of the Woman's Club or by contacting Leigh Ann Ray, event organizer, at (304) 235-2046 or (304) 235-0338.
