VERDUNVILLE — The West Virginia State Police has sent in several cadets to assist with flood cleanup in Logan County. On Monday and Tuesday, the West Virginia State Police assigned 53 Cadets from the West Virginia State Police Academy to assist in cleanup efforts in communities in Logan County following last week’s severe flash flooding. The cadets have been involved in collecting and distributing essential supplies and assisting community members in removing damaged items from homes. “Protecting and serving the public are duties performed by law enforcement officers on a regular basis,” WVSP Colonel C.R. “Jay” Smithers said in a press release. “The West Virginia State Police has made it a priority to serve those negatively affected by the recent flooding in Logan. Wherever there is a disaster within our state, the West Virginia State Police is willing to respond and assist as necessary. The 53 cadets who participated in the clean-up efforts over the past two days have gained valuable knowledge and training as it relates to disaster preparedness. Their experiences will better enable them to respond to future disasters should it become necessary.” The cadets were working at the Verdunville Church of God distribution center on Tuesday, loading cleaning supplies and other materials into vehicles for flood victims.
