MAN — A loaded school bus collided with a car stopped at an intersection yesterday afternoon in front of Man High School.

The collision happened around 2:55 p.m. at the intersection in front of Man High School, when a Man Middle School bus, No. 2092, scrapped the driver’s side of a stopped car. There were 19 students and the driver on the bus, but none were injured.

Brandon Plymale, who was driving the 2012 Subaru Impreza that was hit by the bus, said he was stopped at the intersection in front of the high school and the bus driver came too far across the center of the road and crashed into his car.

The bus damaged the car from the front fender all the way to the back of the vehicle. The bus suffered only minor damage.

Plymale and his 17-year-old passenger, Taylor Whited both said they were jarred, but uninjured.

“I was following three other cars coming out of here and the bus was sitting at the turn and I followed the car in front of me and she almost pushed them off the road, so I stopped and she just kept coming. I laid on the horn and she just pushed me right off the road and almost into the guardrail,” Plymale said. “She hit the driver’s side. She just kept going and never even stopped.”

Whited, a junior at Man High, confirmed Plymale’s account of the crash.

“There was three cars in front of us and he was following in the line because the bus was stopped. She started coming and the car in front of us went off the road and almost into the guardrail,” Whited, a junior at Man High, said. “(Plymale) stopped and started blowing his horn because she kept coming and she just hit us.”

Logan County Schools Bus Supervisor Mark Adkins was on the scene minutes after the crash happened. He said he was still investigating and didn’t have a lot of details as of press time. Adkins was busy calling each and every parent.

Adkins said students were checked out and many got onto another bus to be taken home, while others remained at the scene on the bus to wait for their parents.

Adkins said all 19 Man Middle School students who were headed to Madison Creek were checked out and everyone was okay.

Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy James Brown III investigated the crash. Deputy Brown said the bus driver, who was not identified, was cited for traveling left of center.

The Logan County Volunteer Fire Department No. 2 and the Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority both assisted with the crash.
