AMHERSTDALE — Once again, Man area residents have rallied together in support of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital annual Bike-A-Thon held Saturday, May 5, at Buffalo Grade School.
According to organizer Carmela Bailey, the event was a big success and raised $9,000 for the hospital.
Young bikers raised money by getting sponsors and the top 15 money raisers got new bicycles which were donated by area businesses and politicians. Also given out were Walmart gift cards.
Volunteers also held a yard sale and bake sale. As well biking, the event also offered games for the kids.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened on February 4, 1962 and was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. Its mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. No family ever pays St. Jude for anything.
