The Man High School baseball team, ranked No. 9 in the state in Class A, improved to 7-5 on the season with Friday night’s 5-1 win over Fayetteville at Man’s Dr. Juan Nordelo Field.
In game one East Hardy beat the Mingo Central Miners 10-5.
Jacob Riggins picked up the win on the mound for the Hillbillies while Nick Carter recorded the save. The duo combined to give up just two hits on the night.
Fayetteville’s Joe Reinhart suffered the loss.
The Billies were led in hitting by J.T. Twardy and Jordan Simspon. Twardy went 3-for-4 and scored three runs while Simpson was 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI.
Nick Carter was 2-for-4 at the plate, while Drew Merritt was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
Shane Browning went 1-for-3 and drove in a run for Man. Thomas Blair also had one hit on the evening.
Fayetteville’s Brian Gore and Reinhart had the Pirates’ lone hits on the night.
Man was scheduled to play East Hardy on Saturday at home, followed by Fayetteville and East Hardy. Man was then set to play Mingo Central in the nightcap.
This week, the Billies are set to go to River View on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. away game, then return home to host Van on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before going to Class AAA county rival Logan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Then on Thursday, Man plays at 3A Lincoln County at 5 p.m. The Billies then host Valley Fayette on Friday at 6 p.m. and host Buffalo next Saturday, April 14 at noon.
