Logan’s own chess prodigy got second place at his first Supernational event, and qualifies to represent the U.S. in a World Youth tournment to be held in December.
Ten-year-old Advait “Adi” Patel played the Supernational, which is held every four years and hosted by the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn. This year, the event was from April 5-7.
There were 5300 young participants and Adi faced higher rated competitors from different states, some of whom had played and done well internationally.
Adi set a goal to reach Board 1 and worked hard for two months to prepare for the event. He achieved his goal and got to Board 1 in the last round. Adi got a draw, but he did not let his opponent have an easy game.
On April 4, Adi placed third in the National Blitz [speed chess], an event with about 700 participants.
Adi’s mother Ruhi Patel, said the most proud moment was to see him on stage and on the 1st board.
” I was overwhelmed when people we know, and also people we did not know, came up to us to congratulate and wish Adi luck for reaching that position,” said Mrs. Patel,”So many parents came up to me to say that they were proud of Adi, to see him get there so fast and set an example for other kids. For me Adi was already the winner”
Adi now qualifies for World Youth under 12 to be held in Al Ain, the second-largest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Mrs. Patel and her family want to express their sincere appreciation to those who have supported Adi including the County Commission, Jean and the late Dan Dahill, Denise Queen, Matt and many more who have made this possible.
