On Wednesday, May 2, in the Logan High School Little Theater, Teens Against Alcohol and Drugs (TAAD) conducted a Prom Promise Assembly. The purpose of the Prom Promise event is to instill in the minds of juniors and seniors the dangers of using alcohol and drugs to enhance prom and graduation celebrating.
“I would rather have a prevention assembly to discourage the use of chemical substance than to attend a funeral knowing I had done nothing to discourage underage drinking and drugging,” said LHS Principal Robert N. Luca.
The event was sponsored by Kelli Wooten Willis Nationwide Insurance of Logan. Sherry Mullins, office manager, was on hand to present the Prom Promise Committee with a cool backpack filled by handy items that can be used in school or on trips.
Trooper Silas Belt was the guest speaker at the assembly. Belt gave statistics, quoted laws, and told stories to deter alcohol and drug use at these springtime festivities.
“There are more alcohol and drug related accidents during the prom and graduation season than any other on the calendar. If we can implant in the minds of our precious youth that drinking will destroy their mind, soul, and body, especially while driving; then we have accomplished a major goal,” said John E. Godby, TADD Advisor. “No one wants to go to a funeral home; we want to go to prom and graduations.”
