CHAPMANVILLE — A road in Chapmanville has been named in memory of one of its native sons who dedicated his life to saving lives and serving the public.

Last year, Corey Price, the son of Chapmanville Mayor Jerry and Marlene Price, was killed in a tragic motorcycle crash. Corey Price was a dedicated fireman and emergency first responder, who spent the majority of his young life with the goal of helping others.

Corey Price worked with both the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department and the Logan Fire Department and was a member of the Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority rescue crew.

Because of Corey Price’s service to others, Logan County Delegate Rupert “Rupie” Phillips wanted to do something to honor the memory of the fallen first responder.

On Saturday, Delegate Phillips unveiled the new sign that marks the Corey Price Memorial Highway that runs through Chapmanville from the Speedway to Chapmanville Regional High School.

“Delegate Phillips approached me awhile back and asked me if it was alright if he named a road in honor of Corey,” Mayor Price said. “He got the resolution written up and ran through the House of Delegates and then it went through the State Senate, where Senator Art Kirkendoll read it as a separate reading in the Chambers. I was pleased that Sen. John Unger stood up and asked that it be recorded in the Senate.

“It’s really a great honor. I really appreciate Rupie doing this for us. It means the world to us.”

Delegate Phillips said he has been a friend of the Price family for years and wanted to do something to honor their very special son.

“I went to the wake and saw all the people there and it was very touching,” Phillips said. “He was a volunteer fireman and a member of the Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority. I wanted to name something in honor of Corey. I was there to fight for it, along with Delegate Josh Stowers and Delegate Ralph Rodighiero, and we got it through. I was glad to be the one to initiate it and to see it through.”

Phillips said Corey Price exemplified what a Good Samaritan truly is.

“This is something his family, his friends and his coworkers can drive by and see and think about Corey,” Phillips said.

The Prices were joined by numerous family members and friends from Chapmanville and around Logan County for the unveiling of the sign. Mayor Price and Phillips read the resolution to the crowd prior to the sign being unveiled.
