MAN — Logan High School’s Cody Frye fired a no-hitter on Wednesday night to lead the Class AAA No. 10 Wildcat baseball team to a 13-0 win at Man, the Class A’s No. 9-rated squad.
The Wildcats’ Alex Mareske ripped a grand slam in the top of the first inning as the Cats cruised to the lopsided win.
Adam Mareske led the game off with a single off Man starter Nick Carter.
Carter then walked Trent Dalton and hit freshman Z. Minnick to juice the bases.
Alex Mareske then drilled a frozen rope homer over the left center field fence for a grand slam to jump-start LHS to a 4-0 advantage.
The Wildcats added to their lead in the top of the second inning, pushing the advantage to 6-0 — all coming with two outs.
Adam Mareske walked, stole second and then came around to score on an RBI double by Dalton to make it 5-0.
Alex Mareske then got his fifth RBI on a double to score Dalton to give the Wildcats the 6-0 lead.
Frye then got Man out in order in the bottom of the second. Jake Riggins grounded out, before fanning both Thomas Blair and Cayce Mullins.
Man head coach Larry Vance then made a pitching change, bringing in Mullins. But Logan continued to hit the baseball and plated two more runs to push the lead to 8-0. Justin Oney had the big hit — a two-run single.
Once again, Frye had his A game going as he got Shane Browning to ground out before Nick Carter reached on an error. Frye then got J.T. Twardy to hit into a double play to end the third frame.
Logan pushed its lead to 9-0 in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI single by Adam Mareske.
Frye got the Billies out in order in the home half of the sixth.
Logan then exploded for four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game away at 13-0.
Logan head coach Roger Gertz was able to get most of his reserves into the game.
Coach Vance went through six pitchers on the night and had no answer for the Logan assault.
Frye struck out seven Man batters and walked just three.
Logan improved to 8-3 while Man dropped to 10-7 on the season. The two teams are scheduled to meet again next Tuesday at LHS in the Wildcats’ home opener at Roger Gertz Field.
The Wildcats play at Scott on Saturday at 3 p.m. and then go to Class AAA sectional rival South Charleston on Monday before playing the Hillbillies on Tuesday.
Man travels to Lincoln County on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game, before hosting Valley Fayette on Friday at 6 p.m. Man is home on Saturday against Buffalo in a noon game and then host Phelps, Ky., on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
