The Plaza Lanes No. 1 All Star Travel League presented Art Kirkendoll, W.Va. Senator and former Logan County Commission president, a plaque of appreciation Thursday afternoon.

“We’ve presented Art with a plaque for his support of our bowling team,” said Ron Beatty. Beatty is one of six members of the travel league team.

“We bowl in a semi-professional league and bowl all over the state,” said Beatty. “When we won the second half, Art was there to support us.”

Kirkendoll said he has known the team members for a long time and considers them great people.

“I’ve always taken pride in all the sporting activities for our kids, even in scholastics,” said Kirkendoll. “I found out we had assembled a team in Logan that could compete statewide with anybody I took the liberty and was pleased to go and watch them a couple of times and they represented us — the county — exceptionally well. They handled thenmselves well in the competition. They needed my help and I was pleased to stand up and help them.”

Beatty said members of the travel team league will travel Sunday to Charleston for a roll-off for state championship. A team from Beckley won the first half of the season and the Plaza Lanes team won the second half, resulting in co-champions. The two teams will now be in a roll-off to determine the state winner for the entire season. There were 12 teams competing during the season.

Plaza Lanes No. 1 All Star Travel League members and their averages are: Eugene Snyder (222); Ron Beatty (202); Teddy Conley (207); Howie Gore (190); Trevor Curry (221) and Kevin Pridemore (195).
