MAN — As an added bonus to attending START in March, the fellowship hall at Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church was festively decorated for Easter.
The table covers were in colors of green, pink, yellow and purple. Placemats for the tables were in the same coordinating colors. The centerpieces for the tables were a large Easter egg and rabbit complemented by Easter grass with small colorful Easter eggs. Russell Stover Easter egg candy was the favor at his place setting. The decoration for the registration table was a large white tree with colorful eggs.
The meeting was called to order by START president Frank Thompson; then he introduced the guests Patsy Tilley and W.Va. State Senator Art Kirkendoll.
Afterwards, Rev. Randy Sites prayed the opening prayer.
At the completion of the meal, Frank acknowledged those with March birthdays. They included Lessie Bailey, Mayor Jim Blevins, Zettie Brown, Laura Hinchman (celebrating her 93rd), Pauline Jeffrey, Peggy Mosley, Mae Osborne and Dr. Pat White. Based on tradition, the group sang the “Happy Birthday” song accompanied by Alice Harrison while Shirley Brown took pictures.
Then, Frank introduced Senator Kirkendoll as the featured speaker. Senator Kirkendoll told of his inclination into the Senate group as most everything is based on seniority. He talked about the committees on which he serves and the probability of him better serving his constituents based on his current position as W.Va. State Senator. He informed the group about the upcoming demolition of the old Man Hospital and Nursing Facility. And, he indicated he definitely will continue to support the county libraries.
During the business session, the group voted to donate funds for the purchase of supplies to aid in the flood cleanup effort at Mud Fork. START treasurer Alice Harrison gave the monthly treasurer’s report.
START’s book, “A Step Back in Time, Triadelphia District”, is still available for sale at the Buffalo Creek Memorial Library. What better gift for a graduate than a book of memories of Triadelphia District to complement their high school yearbook.
Prior to adjournment, door prizes were awarded to Barbara Brunty, Lounice Jeffrey, and Billie Noel.
Pat O’Brien will be the guest performer for April. He always presents a very enjoyable music program.

START’s next meeting will be at noon, Thursday, April 24, in the Fellowship Hall of Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church.
