More than 100 rode the Hatfield-McCoy Trails to help Skyler Miller, Ben Gillman and Gabe Lyall as they all wage war on cancer and their families struggle not only with the child’s illness and the emotional toll it takes, but also with overwhelming expenses.
The Logan County communities have stepped up to help the families by having tag days, car washes, a wrestling event, a silent auction, t-shirt sales as well as many other fund-raising efforts — many are still in progress.
The Ride to Survive event had hot dogs and t-shirts for sale, face painting and raffles. Family members took part in the event, with Ben Gilman’s twin brother drawing the tickets for raffles. The Saving Animals From Euthanasia (S.A.F.E.) organization was on hand with animals to adopt and contributed money received from adoptions.
Donations for the event were $10,000. Each family received a check for $3,000 and will receive an equal share of the rest of the money once all donations are in and all shirts are sold.
