The Man High School swimming team made a splash last weekend as the Aqua Billies competed in the HYCAT High School December Invitational, hosted by Capital High School at the University of Charleston Natatorium.

Seven teams participated in the meet including, George Washington, (which won the meet overall), Hurricane, Capital, River Valley (Ohio), Man, Riverside and Chapmanville Regional High School.

The young Man Aqua Billies’ team, a first-year program, continues to improve as the four swimmers who participated each placed in scoring positions in at least one of their events.

Freshman Dana Goodman scored 14 points for the Man girls, which was enough to place fifth of seven teams. She placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:24.23, and swam the 50-yard freestyle just a few heats later and placed 12th overall with a time of 30.97.

Kayleigh Egnor is also a member of the Man team but was unable to attend Saturday’s meet.

The Man boys placed sixth out of seventh teams with a combined score of 23.5 points.

Sophomore Richie Caserta led the boys with a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.94 and an 11th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:06.82.

Junior Chase Harvey took seventh in the 200-yard freestyle posting a time of 2:37.68 and he tied for 12th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.54.

Freshman Nijule Sharp also placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:28.24.

Man Coach Curt Mascherino said he is proud of his young team.

“Every single one of them have already exceeded individual expectations for this season and I believe that they will only continue to improve on top of what they have already accomplished,” he said.

The Aqua Billies are scheduled to be in action again on Saturday as they participate in the Highlander Invitational at Marshall University’s Fitch Natatorium located in the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington.

The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Chapmanville Regional’s results were unavailable.
