The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team took it on the chin on Wednesday night in its Cardinal Conference opener, falling 60-35 to the homestanding Sissonville Indians.
Chapmanville Regional dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Cardinal Conference with the loss.
Sissonville lost seniors Karli Pinkerton, Madison Jones and Brooke Reed to graduation but didn’t seem to miss a beat from a team that reached the state semifinals a year ago.
Laila Arther led Sissonville with 26 points. She also had nine rebounds, four assists and six steals and hit on four shots from beyond the 3-point arc.
Brooklyn Campbell added 11 points and Marleigh Bays had eight points and five blocked shots for the Indians, which went on a 19-0 run in the second quarter to put away the Lady Tigers early.
Olivia Dalton led CRHS with 14 points. Kaylee Blair had seven points and 11 boards.
Chapmanville was scheduled to return to action with Thursday night’s home game against Sherman. CRHS then plays Bridgeport on Saturday in the Big Ten/Cardinal Conference Challenge.
The Lady Tigers host Herbert Hoover next Tuesday night.
