After Saturday night’s thrilling 59-56 double-overtime win by Mingo Central at Chapmanville Regional, the Miners’ basketball team has leap-frogged over the Tigers in this week’s state rankings.

Mingo Central (13-3) is ranked No. 3 in the state in Class AA this week, while Chapmanville (14-4) remained at the No. 4 spot.

The Miners were ranked fifth last week.

The two Cardinal Conference teams are scheduled to have a rematch on Feb. 14 at Mingo Central.

Chapmanville and Mingo Central could meet a third time in March for the Class AA sectional championship. If that comes into fruition, the game would played on a neutral floor at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena.

Logan, Lincoln County, Scott and Man are the other sectional tourney teams along with MCHS and CRHS.

Bluefield (14-2) remains No. 1 in the state in this week’s Double-A poll. Fairmont Senior (13-3) is second.

Cardinal Conference teams Poca (11-5) and Sissonville (11-4) are ranked fifth and seventh respectively in the state this week.

One other conference team, Winfield, also received votes this week.

Capital (14-3) is ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, while Wheeling Central (16-2) continues to grab the top spot in Single-A.

The Tug Valley boys (10-7), riding a three-game winning streak, moved up from 10th to eighth in Class A.

The Winfield girls (17-1) are second in Class AA this week behind Bluefield (15-1). Huntington (15-3) is No. 1 in the Triple-A rankings, while Wheeling Central (18-1) is No. 1 in Class A.

The Mingo Central girls received one vote and are ranked 12th in Single-A.

Cardinal teams Sissonville (eighth) and Poca (10th) are also ranked on the girls’ side in Class AA.
