CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Man High School boys’ basketball team got an early wake-up call on Monday morning as the Hillbillies opened the three-day Little General Shootout at the Big House at the Charleston Civic Center with an 8:45 a.m. game against Winfield.
Man got its bell rung with a 77-30 loss to the Generals.
With the loss, Man dropped to 0-17 on the season and saw its losing streak stretch to 18 games going back to last season.
The Hillbillies were held scoreless in the first quarter as Winfield (10-7) led 19-0. It was 37-7 at the half and 60-18 after three.
Andrew Huff led Winfield’s balanced scoring with 12 points.
The Generals were just 6-of-20 from the free throw line. Man sank 1-of-4.
No Man player reached double digits in scoring.
The Billies were led by Matthew Spaulding’s eight points. Andrew Spaulding had seven, Trey Whitt five and Nathan Mitchell three. Michael Sorrell and Cutler Workman tallied two each and Seth Wingler one.
Matthew Spaulding hit two 3s for Man. Andrew Spaulding, Whitt and Mitchell drained one each.
The Billies were scheduled to play at Chapmanville on Tuesday night. Man hosts Mount View on Friday at 7:30 p.m., then play a two-game series with Tug Valley to close out the regular season.
