Tigers breeze past winless Billies

CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — The Class AA No. 4-ranked Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team had an easy time with winless Man on Tuesday night with a 94-35 victory over the Hillbillies at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium.

Chapmanville improved to 15-4 with the win. Man fell to 0-18.

Man was led by Trey Whitt’s 12 points. Cutler Workman had nine, while Michael Sorrell tossed in four points. Andy Spaulding, Tyler Elkins, Quintin Moody, Marcus Honaker and Nathan Mitchell all had two points.

Drew Williamson paced the Tigers with a game-high 18 points. Dylan Smith had 16, while Devin Collins, Hunter Neil and Fidelis Nwafor netted eight points each. Nwafor was making his first start of the season.

Obinna Killen had seven, Brennan Williams and Kyle Browning had six each. Garrett Richard and Tyler Moore tossed in four each.

The Tigers led 17-4 after one quarter, then outscored Man 30-6 in the second to take a commanding 47-10 halftime lead. The Tigers had a 23-15 edge in the third to take a 70-25 advantage. It was a 24-10 CRHS margin in the fourth.

CRHS swept the season series with Man, also winning 105-32 on Jan. 27 on the road.

Chapmanville hosts county rival Logan on Friday night at 7:30. The Tigers then have a rematch on Feb. 14 at Mingo Central. CRHS hosts Wayne on Feb. 17 in the regular season finale.

Man hosts Mount View on Friday night, then plays at Class A No. 8-ranked Tug Valley on Feb. 14 before hosting the TVHS Panthers on Feb. 21 in the last game of the regular season.

The Tigers and Hillbillies then join Logan, Mingo Central, Lincoln County and Scott in the Class AA sectional tourney.

Chapmanville is fighting it out for the top seed with Mingo Central. Man will likely be the No. 6 seed.
