The Chapmanville All-Stars picked up its first win in the 11-12 State Little League Tournament in Petersburg on Sunday afternoon with a 15-7 win over Shady Spring.
Shady dropped to 0-2 in state tourney play and was eliminated.
Chapmanville (1-1) was scheduled to play Braxton County on Monday. A win by Chapmanville over Braxton would move them into Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. contest against either Jefferson or Barboursville.
Shady Spring went up 3-0 on Chapmanville with Mason Palmateer’s three-run homer in the first inning.
Chapmanville cut it to 3-1 in the second with Levi Bailey’s RBI single.
The Chapmanville All-Stars then sent nine batters to the plate and scored six runs in the top of the third inning to take a 7-3 lead.
J.D. Ferrell’s solo homer got it started, trimming the deficit to 3-2.
An RBI single by Isaac Dixson then tied it up and Evan Plumley’s RBI single put Chapmanville on top 4-3.
After an RBI groundout to score another run, Bailey then made it 7-3 with a two-run homer.
Later in the fourth inning, RBI singles off the bats of Trey Pancake and Plumley gave Chapmanville a 9-4 edge. Plumley and Scout Adams later scored on an Shady error to push the lead to 11-4.
Shady Spring tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it an 11-7 ballgame.
Chapmanville then put Shady Spring away in the top of the sixth by scoring four more runs to expand the lead to 15-7. Plumley had a two-run double during the frame.
The Chapmanville All-Stars came into the tourney as the District 2 runners-up.
The District 2 champion Pineville All-Stars were eliminated from the state tourney after two blowout losses in Bracket A. Pineville lost 17-6 to Central Greenbrier on Saturday, then were destroyed by Fairmont, 28-0, on Sunday.
In other Bracket A games, Bridgeport ripped Milton 23-1 on Saturday, then hammered Summersville 23-6 on Sunday to advance to Monday’s semifinal matchup with Central Greenbrier. CG defeated Mountaineer, 13-4 on Sunday. Mountaineer was a 7-6 winner over Fairmont on Saturday.
In other Bracket B games, Hedgesville won 9-4 over Jefferson on Saturday, then defeated Braxton County, 10-0 on Sunday to advance to Monday’s state semifinal game with Capital Midwestern.
Barboursville won 5-3 over Shady Spring on Saturday but lost 7-0 to Capital Midwestern on Sunday.

The Chapmanville 11-12-year-old All-Stars lost 14-10 to Capital Midwestern on Saturday evening during the first day of the State Little League Tournament at Petersburg.
Trey Pancake hit two home runs for Chapmanville, including a grand slam. He also doubled.
Ethan Stollings hit an inside-the-park homer for Chapmanville.
The Chapmanville All-Stars led 6-4 but fell behind 14-6 to Capital.
Chapmanville then pushed four more runs across home plate to set the final score.
