CHAPMANVILLE — Chapmanville Regional High School senior wide receiver Jacob Dingess is The Logan Banner’s Athlete of the Week.
The Logan Banner will select an athlete of the week each week throughout the fall sports season.
Dingess was instrumental in the Tigers’ 30-6 win last Friday night at home over Class AA No. 9-ranked Sissonville at Chapmanville’s Tiger Stadium.
Chapmanville senior quarterback Alex Berry hooked up with Dingess on a pair of touchdown passes covering 7 and 9 yards. Dingess was last year’s top wide receiver in the conference.
Dingess had nine catches for 172 yards in the game. One of his receptions went for 30 yards to the 1-yard line.
CRHS coach George Barker said Berry and Dingess were huge in leading CRHS to the win.
“If they can stay healthy they are going to be huge. He’s going to be hard to defend,” Barker said of Dingess. “We just try to get him in situations where he’s one-on-one and we don’t think that you can guard him.”
Berry said it’s nice to have Dingess to throw to.
“Jacob is awesome and is a big playmaker,” Berry said of Dingess. “He does a great job out there.”
Chapmanville will look to make it 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cardinal Conference this Friday night as the Tigers head to Falling Rock to take on the Herbert Hoover Huskies (1-0, 1-0).
The Tigers are ranked No. 7 in the state in this week’s 2A media poll.
