CHAPMANVILLE — It was a happy season opener for the Chapmanville Middle School football team and head coach Jason Maynard on Thursday night as the Tigers won 32-0 over Sherman at home.
It was the first game for the CMS Tigers on the new Tiger Stadium Field Turf.
Chapmanville went on top 8-0 in the first quarter as Isaac Dixon ran in for a 68-yard touchdown and Josh Bumgarner tacked on the two-point conversion run. It was the first of three touchdowns on the night by Dixon.
The Tigers then added two more touchdowns and two more two-point conversions in the second quarter to grab a 24-0 halftime lead.
Dixon’s 39-yard touchdown run and conversion run by Evan Plumley made it 16-0. Chase Berry then tossed a 21-yard TD pass to Dixon. Berry also scored on the conversion play.
Trey Pancake’s 17-yard touchown run and Berry’s pass to Pancake on the two-point conversion then finished off the scoring in third quarter.
CMS is at Poca this Thursday night.
Man Middle 16,
POCA — The Man Middle School football won 16-0 at Poca on Thursday night in its season opener.
Cameron Frye put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with a touchdown. Brock Muncy ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
Zack Frye later scored a touchdown for Man and added the two-point conversion run to finish off the scoring.
Man Middle, coached by Tootie Carter, was scheduled to return to action this coming Thursday night at home against Van. Van Middle School, however, is reportedly going to have to forfeit the game for not having enough players. That would put the Pioneers at 2-0 on the season.
