Butcher has CRHS golf team off to solid start

CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Regional High School golf team is off to a strong start, led by its new coach Chad Butcher.

Butcher replaces longtime veteran coach Tommy Kirk, who had resigned.

Chapmanville saw action on Aug. 24 vs. Sherman at the River View Country Club in Madison and beat the Tide by 34 shots. Chapmanville had a 135, while Sherman finished with a 169.

Austin Bledsoe led CRHS with a 43. Braden Dickerson had a 45, while Carlee Senator shot a 47, Dakota Saunders a 55 and Ben Chapman a 56.

Sherman was led by Trevor Toney’s 49.

Chapmanville had earlier faced St. Albans on Aug. 11 at Scarlett Oaks and beat the Red Dragons by 27 shots. CRHS fired a 199 while St. Albans had a 226 for the day.

Bledsoe led the Tigers with a 43. Senator and Austin Evans each shot a 49. Chapman had a 57.

David Moles had a 49 to lead the Red Dragons.

Back on Aug. 13, Chapmanville went to the Shawnee Golf Course and faced Sissonville in a Cardinal Conference matchup. The Indians won by a single shot, 197-198.

Bledsoe led the way again for Chapmanville as he had a 43. Senator had a 44, Evans a 51 and Chapman a 60.

Sissonville was paced by a 46 by T. Boadnar.

The Tigers then faced Logan and lost by a single shot again as the Wildcats scored a 171-172 victory.

Dickerson’s 38 paced Chapmanville. Bledsoe had a 39, Saunders a 46 and Evans a 49.

Kaleb Thompson had a 38 to lead Logan. Alexis Perry fired a 42, Tommy Adkins a 43 and Jarrett Adkins a 48.

Chapmanville opened on Aug. 10 by facing Sheman, Lincoln County and South Charleston at Shawnee. The Tigers finished first place with a 176. SC and LC each had a 217 and Sherman a 219.

Bledsoe again led the Tigers with a 38. Dickerson shot a 41, while Saunders had a 45 and Evans a 52.

The CRHS golf team is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday at home against Logan at the Logan Country Club. The Tigers later play Scott, Riverside, George Washington, Herbert Hoover and Capital.

The Cardinal Conference tourney is set for Sept. 22 at home with a 4 p.m. tee time.
