MAN — After an outstanding performance in leading his team to a 48-6 win last Friday night at Mount View, Man High School senior quarterback John Thomas Keffer has been named as the Logan Banner’s Athlete of the Week.
Keffer accounted for five of Man’s touchdowns, completing 10-for-18 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns on tosses of 55, 5 and 21 and running for two more scores on runs of 1 and 5.
Led by Keffer, the Hillbillies racked up 462 yards of total offense and improved to 2-0 on the season. Man was ranked No. 8 in the state last week in the Class A media poll and were No. 10 in the Metro News Power Index.
With wins over Triple-A Logan (18-13 in Week 1) and the Double-A Golden Knights, Man would be ranked No. 1 in the state in the WVSSAC Computer Ratings. The first rankings are due out next week.
Keffer edged out teammate and favorite target Ross Osborne for this week’s Player of the Week honors. Osborne, a senior Man wide receiver, reeled in seven passes for 178 yards and had TD grabs of 55 and 5 yards.
A third Man player, running back Dustin McCoy, had 149 yards rushing and one score in last week’s win.
The Man football team will look to go 3-0 on the season on Friday night as the Billies travel to Cleak Fork to take on the Westside Renegades.
