CHAPMANVILLE — The Man Middle School football team raised its record to 2-0 on the season with Thursday night’s 20-0 win at county rival Chapmanville.
Chapmanville dropped to 2-2 on the season. The Man Pioneers were idle last week.
After a scoreless first quarter tie, Man opened the scoring at the 5:25 mark of the second quarter with Cameron Frye’s 18-yard touchdown run to make it 6-0.
Then with 0.4 seconds left until the half, the Pioneers scored again with Frye’s 25-yard TD run to make it 12-0.
Man scored once more with 2:33 left in the game as Zach Frye ran in for a 5-yard touchdown run. He then added the two-point conversion run to close out the scoring.
Trey Pancake was Chapmanville’s leading rusher with 50 yards on 10 carries. Pancake also had a reception for 10 yards.
Josh Bumgarner had 10 yards on three carries.
Defensively, Dominic Tomblin and Josh Bumgarner led the way for CMS with five tackles apiece. Pancake and Waylon Hensley had four stops apiece. Pancake also recovered a fumble. The fumble was forced by Tomblin and Chris Samson. Alex Freeman, Nick Ramey and Chase Berry also had a tackle.
CMS hosts Hamlin this coming Thursday in the annual homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
Man Middle also has its homecoming game this Thursday as Madison Middle School comes to Man’s George A. Queen Memorial Field. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
The Logan Middle School football team rolled to a 46-0 win over Winfield on Thursday night.
LMS led 22-0 after one quarter, 38-0 at the half and then coasted.
Logan was led by David Early who was 3 of 5 passing for 113 yards with two passing touchdowns of 34, and 76 yards, both caught by Troy Cowart. He also had a two-point conversion pass to Corey Townsend.
Early also led the team on the ground with seven rushes for 109 yards and two TDs. He also ran in three two-point conversions.
Troy Cowart carried the ball three times for 76 yards and one touchdown. Hunter Mileto had five carries for 32 yards and one two-point conversion. Tanner Lambert had two carries for 21 yards. Robert Tolliver also carried the ball twice for 16 yards. Ethan Carter, Kaleb Williamson and Branson Gore all carried the ball one time for seven yards each.
Cowart led LMS on defense with 13 tackles. Lambert made two tackles had one interception that he returned for a 66-yard touchdown. Early also had one interception with a return of 34 yards and three tackles.
Dylan Adkins had seven tackles, Mileto six and Hunter Meade five. Robert Tolliver, James Smith and Williamson each made two tackles.
Sidney Chapman, Ethan Carter, Damian Dehart, Hunter White and Conner McGrew all had one stop.
LMS is at Ravenswood next Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
SETH — The Lenore Middle School football team improved to 2-1 on the season with Thursday night’s 8-0 win at Sherman.
No further information was available on the game.
Lenore is scheduled to play at Mingo County rival Burch this coming Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Burch football field in Delbarton.
