CHAPMANVILLE — The Coalfield Youth Soccer League kicked off another season last Saturday as 32 teams took part on opening weekend.
History was made as the 17-and-under teams played its matches for the first time on the new Field Turf at Chapmanville’s Tiger Stadium.
Other games were played at the Mullins Soccer Complex in Chapmanville.
The weather was hot but there was a good atmosphere with lots of new players joining the league and lots of family and friends in the crowd.
In a 9-and-under match, the Mean Machine beat the Coal Diggers 5-4. Damon Moore scored three goals for the Coal Diggers. Garrett Dean also scored. The Mean Machine was led by Mason Skidmore’s two goals. Aiden Baker, Cameron Hoffman and Hunter Baker also reached the nets.
The Chaos were a 7-2 winner over the Orange Crush in another 9-and-under match. Sully Ooten had both goals for the Crush. The Chaos goals were unavailable.
The Aztec Warriors won 7-5 over the M.O.D. AJ Motto tallied three goals for the Warriors. Michael Ojeda had two and Kaleb Burford had one goal. An own goal was also counted. The M.O.D. goals were unavailable.
In another U9 match, the Blue Devils were a 10-4 winner over the Grape Apes. Brayden Likens netted five goals for the Blue Devils. Tanner Clay had three and Emma Sias one. Brionna Crawford scored all four goals for the Grape Apes.
In the 12-and-under division, the Vikings won 12-4 over Infinity. No scoring was made available.
The White Lightning also won 9-3 over the Ball Hawgs in a U12 match. Emily Runyon, Cassandra Carrillo and Peyton Thompson all scored for the Ball Hawgs. The scoring for the White Lightning was not reported.
In a 17-and-under match, the Haze and the Wild Billies played to a 3-3 draw at Tiger Stadium. Cameron Adkins, Dylan Brown and Stephen Clemens all recorded goals for the Haze. Joey Vinson and Walker Jeffrey scored for the Wild Billies. An own goal was also counted.
Action is scheduled to continue in the CYSL on Saturday.
