Man football climbs to fourth in the state in latest Class A poll


The undefeated Man High School football team climbed one spot to fourth in this week’s Class AA Gazette-Mail poll by a statewide panel of sports writers.

The Hillbillies are 5-0 after last week’s 26-6 win at Fayetteville. Man is off this week.

Chapmanville (5-0) a 43-26 winner over 3A county rival Logan last Friday, stayed at No. 6 this week in the Class AA poll.

Tolsia (5-0), a future opponent of the Tigers and also a member of the Cardinal Conference, is fifth this week in 2A.

Mingo Central (3-1), another future opponent of Chapmanville’s and another Cardinal team, is seventh this week.

Cabell Midland (5-0) stayed at No. 1 this week in 3A. The Knights host Kentucky powerhouse Belfry this Friday.

Bridgeport (4-0-1) is still a unanimous No. 1 this week in the 2A poll. The Indians are the defending state champs.

Magnolia (5-0) is the unanimous No. 1 this week in Single-A as MHS grabbed all 10 first-place votes.

The WVSSAC Computer Ratings which determine playoff seedings, are to be released on Tuesday afternoon.
