For the third straight week, the Man High School football team is ranked No. 1 in the state in the Class A WVSSAC poll.
The Hillbillies are 5-0 after last week’s 26-6 win on the road at Fayetteville. The Billies, which have 10.6 points in this week’s ratings, are off this week ahead of next week’s home clash against county rival Chapmanville (5-0).
Chapmanville is tied for No. 4 this week with James Monroe (5-0).
Man leads No. 2 South Harrison (4-0) which has 9.75 points.
Moorefield (5-0) is third, Magnolia (5-0) fourth, East Hardy (4-0) fifth, St. Marys (4-0) sixth, Williamstown (4-1) seventh, Buffalo (4-0) eighth, Bishop Donahue (5-0) ninth and Tug Valley (4-1) 10th. Pendleton County (4-1) is 11th, Wheeling Central (4-1) 12th, Calhoun County (4-1) 13th, Valley Wetzel (3-1) 14th, Pocahontas County (3-2) is 15th and Wirt County is 16th.
If the season ended today, Man would host Wirt County in a first round playoff game, while Tug Valley would travel to play at Williamstown.
Man plays at Tug Valley later on in the season.
The top 16 teams in each class advance to the playoffs which being Nov. 13 across the state.
In this week’s Class AA ratings, Fairmont (5-0) is No. 1, Bluefield (5-0) is second, Bridgeport (4-0-1) is third and CRHS and James Monroe are tied for fourth. Keyser (5-0) is sixth, Tolsia (5-0) seventh, Lincoln (4-1) eighth, Roane County (4-1) ninth and Independence (4-1) 10th. Mingo Central (3-1) is 11th, Liberty-Raleigh (4-1), Summers County (4-1) and Weir (4-1) are tied for 12th, North Marion (2-2) is 15th and Nicholas County (3-1) is 16th.
If the season ended today, Chapmanville would host either Weir, Summers County or Liberty-Raleigh in a first-round playoff game. The Tigers host Mount View this Friday night. CRHS plays ranked Cardinal Conference teams Mingo Central, Tolsia and No. 19 Wayne (2-2) later in the season.
In Class AAA, Cabell Midland (5-0) is No. 1 this week. The Knights have a showdown with Belfry (Ky.) this Friday night at Ona.
Huntington (5-0) is second, Point Pleasant (5-0) is third, Morgantown (4-1) is fourth and Capital (4-1) fifth. Jefferson (3-1) is No. 6, George Washington (4-1) seventh and Martinsburg (3-2) and Parkersburg South (3-1) are tied for eighth. Brooke (3-2) is 10th, Wheeling Park (2-1-1) 11th, Musselman (3-2) and Spring Valley (3-2) are tied for 12th, John Marshall (3-1) is 14th, Preston (3-2) 15th and Hurricane (3-2) 16th.
