MAN — The Chapmanville Regional High School volleyball team gained a measure of revenge with last Thursday night’s 3-2 road victory over county rival Man.
The Lady Tigers won 25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-9.
Man had defeated Chapmanville at Logan in the season-opening county tri-match.
“We must be improving because we were able to go to Man and get a big win without Savannah Wiley in the lineup. Addy Lucas is getting that refuse to lose attitude,” CRHS coach Johnny Williamson said.
Man coach Orlando Washington was disappointed with the loss.
“There was nothing good about the match for us,” Washington said. “However, we addressed some of our problems on Saturday at the Greenbrier East Tournament that had 19 teams in it.”
Man had a 3-2 showing in the Greenbrier East tourneyf over the weekend.
The Lady Billies lost 2-0 to Class AAA Parkersburg in the opener, falling 25-16, 25-11.
Man rebounded in the second match with a 25-18, 25-23 victory over Pikeview.
“This was a good win for us as they handled us a week earlier in a match held at Westside,” Coach Washington said.
The Lady Billies then defeated James Monroe 25-21, 25-20 in the third match and finished up pool play with a 25-17, 25-21 victory over 3A Nicholas County.
Man closed out tourney play with a 25-8, 25-19 loss to 3A and host Greenbrier East.
“Overall our team played much better on Saturday than they did on Tuesday and especially Thursday,” Coach Washington said. “We are still learning how to be a true team and by that I mean supporting one another no matter what and having energy the whole time. We still need to correct a lot of things, but with focus and hard work October and November could be really good for the Lady Hillbilly volleyball team.”
Hunter Harvey and Allie Meade tied for the team lead in assists on the day as they each had 21.
Hannah Harvey led the Lady Billies in kills with 29 and also had five blocks.
Shauntae Miller lead Man with six blocks and 10 kills.
Tiffany Belcher had 13 kills, while Addison Gibson had four kills and Lauren Zealy also contributed on the day.
The Lady Billies are set to play at home on Thursday against Westside. The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
Chapmanville is slated to play at Wayne on Thursday at 6 p.m.
