Billies hang on to state’s No. 1 ranking

The Man High School football team held on to the state’s No. 1 ranking in Class A in this week’s WVSSAC Football Ratings.

The Hillbillies (5-0) were idle last week and host Class AA No. 4-ranked and county rival Chapmanville Regional on Friday night. The Tigers stayed at No. 4 in this week’s ratings.

Man has 10.80 points and lead No. 2-ranked South Harrison (5-0), which has 10.2 points.

Moorefield (6-0) is third, Magnolia (6-0) fourth, Buffalo (5-0) fifth, St. Marys (5-0) sixth, Bishop Donahue (6-0) seventh, Pendleton County (5-1) eighth, East Hardy (4-1) ninth and Wheeling Central (5-1) 10th.

Williamstown (4-2) is 11th, Tug Valley (4-2) 12th, Valley Wetzel (4-1) 13th, Pocahontas County (4-2) 14th, Notre Dame (3-2) 15th and Van (4-2) 16th.

If the season ended today, Man would host Van in a first-round playoff game. The two teams are set to play each other in the regular season finale, also at Man. Tug Valley would travel to Buffalo, the team it lost to on Friday night.

In this week’s Class AA ratings, Fairmont (5-0) is No. 1 with 13.2 points, leading by a wide margin over No. 2 Bridgeport (5-0-1), which has 11.92 points. James Monroe (5-0) is third, Chapmanville (6-0) fourth, Tolsia (6-0) fifth, Bluefield (5-1) sixth, Keyser (5-1) seventh, Roane County (5-1) eighth, Mingo Central (4-1) ninth and Weir (5-1) 10th.

Lincoln (4-1) is 11th in Class AA, while Summers County (5-1) is 12th, Independence (5-1) 13th, North Marion (3-2) 14th, Westside (3-2) 15th and Robert C. Byrd (3-2) 16th.

If the season ended today, Chapmanville would host Independence in a first-round playoff game while Mingo Central would travel to Roane County.

In this week’s Class AAA ratings, Cabell Midland (6-0) is No. 1. The Knights routed Kentucky power Belfry 49-7 last week. Cabell Midland has 14.17 points, ahead of second-ranked Point Pleasant (6-0), which has 12.33 points.

Capital (5-1) is third, Mogantown (5-1) fourth, Huntington (5-1) fifth, Jefferson (4-1) sixth, George Washington (4-1) seventh, Martinsburg (4-2) eighth, Wheeling Park (3-1-1) ninth and Brooke (4-2) 10th.

Spring Valley (4-2) is ranked 11th in 3A, while Princeton (4-2) is 12th, John Marshall (4-1) 13th, Hurricane (3-2) 14th, Parkersburg South (3-2) 15th and Spring Mills (3-2) 16th.

Logan (2-3) is 20th this week and host No. 19 Greenbrier East (3-3) on Friday night.
