CHAPMANVILLE — Chapmanville Regional High School quarterback Alex Berry has been named as this week’s Logan Banner Athlete of the Week.

Berry, a three-year starter and senior quarterback for the Tigers, tossed the game-winning touchdown — a 28-yard pass to a wide open Noah Dingess with 17 seconds left — to lift undefeated Chapmanville to a 35-28 win at Man on Friday night.

Berry was able to get the pass off despite heavy pressure and had three TD strikes in the win as Class AA No. 4 Chapmanville improved to 7-0 on the season.

Man dropped to 5-1 with the loss.

The victory also secured the county championship for the Tigers.

Berry was 15-for-23 passing for 214 yards and three touchdown passes for the night.

On the season, Berry is 90-for-138 (65.2 percent) passing for 1,420 yards with 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He’s the leading passer in the Cardinal Conference.

Berry and the Tigers have a big Cardinal Conference matchup this Friday night as the Mingo Central Miners (5-1, 3-1) come to Tiger Town for Chapmanville’s home finale and Senior Night game.

Chapmanville is currently 4-0 in the league standings and in a first-place tie with the Tolsia Rebels.
