LENORE — The Madison Middle School football team came to Lenore on Thursday night and spoiled the Rangers’ 2015 homecoming game as the RedHawks won 36-0.

Madison improved to 4-3 on the season with the win while Lenore Middle School dropped to 4-3.

Leading by the same 36-0 score at halftime, the second half was shortened to two four-minute quarters.

Madison scored a touchdown on its very first play as Jacob Berry ran in from 32 yards out for a touchdown at the 5:49 mark. Berry ran in the two-point conversion as the RedHawks led 8-0.

Lenore threatened to score on its next drive after a long pass from quarterback Joby Sorrell to wide receiver Caleb May.

But on a fourth-and-four play at the Madison 20-yard line, Sorrell’s pass to May in the end zone fell incomplete.

Madison took over on downs and on the second play of the drive Caleb Dingess took it to the house on a 77-yard TD run with 6:40 left until halftime. The conversion failed but the RedHawks led 14-0.

Madison’s Caleb Hughes then intercepted Sorrell and dashed in for a 65-yard touchdown to make it 20-0. The conversion failed.

Lenore then fumbled the ball away on its own 6-yard line on its next drive.

On the very next snap, quarterback Dakota Bowman ran in on a 6-yard keeper. After Nathan Halstead’s two-point conversion run it was 28-0 Madison with 4:58 to go until halftime.

Lenore turned the ball over on downs on its next drive and Madison soon cashed in with QB Elijah Toler’s 15-yard TD pass to Blaine Hall. Hughes ran in the two-point conversion and it was 36-0 with 2:19 to go.

That’s the way the game stayed the rest of the way.
