CYSL: Grape Apes beat Coal Diggers in penalty kicks

CHAPMANVILLE — There were a lot of close matches in the Coalfield Youth Soccer League over the weekend in Chapmanville.

In the 9-and-under division, the Grape Apes were an 11-9 winner over the Coal Diggers in a match that was won in penalty kicks.

Brionna Crawford and James Thompson scored three goals each for the Grape Apes, while Jacob Deer and Brandon Altizer tallied two goals each and Issac Affolter had one goal. Tyler Oney tallied five goals for the Coal Diggers. Damon Moore had two and Leland Anderson and Trinity Trump had one each.

The M.O.D. won 9-8 in a close U9 match over the Chaos. McCormick Ilderton led the M.O.D. with six goals. Addyson Amick had two and Chloe Murphy one goal. Kendan Trent had five goals for the Chaos, while Westin Adkins had two and Austin Bishop one.

The Blue Devils won 7-1 over the Mean Machine. Brayden Likens led the Devils with six goals. Tanner Clay also scored. The Mean Machine’s lone goal was scored by Aiden Baker.

The Aztec Warriors prevailed 10-4 over the Orange Crush. The Aztec Warriors were paced by Kaleb Burford and Michael Ojeda with four goals each. AJ Motto had two goals. The Orange Crush got three goals from Sully Ooten and one from Gavin Noe.

In a 12-and-under match, the Vikings won 11-6 over Infinity. Allie Burton and Bryson Smith tallied three goals each for the Vikings. Dylan Watkins had two and Bralen Adams, Hannah Smith and Brooklyn White all had one each. Casey Rayburn scored all six goals for Infinity.

The White Lightning was a 7-3 winner over the Ball Hawgs. Jamari Turner tallied a hat trick for the winners. Beanie Page had two goals and Madison Mullins and Payton Hoffman had one goal each. For the Ball Hawgs, Peyton Thompson reached the net two times and Maddie Mullins also scored a goal.

In a 17-and-under match, the Haze beat the Wild Billies 5-3. Savannah Toney, Joe Toth and Austin Hanshaw all had one goal each for the Haze. A pair of own goals were also counted. Joey Vinson reached the net twice for the Wild Billies. Walker Jeffery also scored a goal.
