The Man High School volleyball team finished up its 2015 regular season on a good note on Tuesday with a pair of wins at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Lady Billies won 25-13, 25-15 over Buffalo and also beat 2A Scott 25-11, 25-7 to finish the regular season with a mark of 17-17-1.
Man, which has went to the state volleyball tourney in each of the past two seasons, now heads into Class A sectional tournament play.
Allie Meade had 10 assists and four aces for Man in the tri-match. Hunter Harvey had 13 assists and six aces. Tiffany Belcher had nine kills and two aces. Hannah Harvey had 12 kills and five blocks. Shauntae Miller had three kills, two blocks and five aces. Addison Gibson had four kills. Lauren Zealy and Madie Meade also made contributions to the wins, Man coach Orlando Washington said.
It was also Senior Night as Man honored its two 12-grade players — Belcher and Hannah Harvey.
Man is scheduled to open sectional play next Tuesday against Sherman at Moncalm. The first serve is 6:15 p.m. Greater Beckley will play winner of the Tug Valley/Montcalm match. The winners will play Thursday in sectional championship and both will also advance to the regional tourney on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The sectional tourney is single-elimination.
Coach Washington praised his team’s performance against Scott and Buffalo.
“The thing that I liked the most was the attitude of all 13 girls on the team,” he said. “If they can continue it in practice good things will happen for us next week. So staying together and supporting each other no matter what, along with being better in practice, will determine if we reach our post-season goals. I have told them all year that we have good players, but that does not matter because you have to have the best team to ultimately succeed and I think we can and we will.”
