Both the Chapmanville and Man high school volleyball teams have advanced to sectional championship matches.
Chapmanville Regional toppled Wayne in five sets on Tuesday night at home to advance to Wednesday evening’s Class AA section finals against Tolsia.
Man defeated Sherman 3-0 on Tuesday in its Class A sectional match which was played at Montcalm. The Lady Billies won 25-8, 25-9 and 25-14.
The Lady Billies are set to take on Greater Beckley Christian in Thursday evening’s sectional title match.
Allie Meade had 14 assists and one ace in Tuesday’s match. Hunter Harvey had 10 assists and two aces. Hannah Harvey had 13 kills, three blocks and one ace. Shauntae Miller had six kills, four blocks and four aces. Tiffany Belcher had six kills, one block and two aces. Addison Gibson had two kills and one block. Lauren Zealy and Madie Meade also made contributions for Man on the night.
With the wins, both CRHS and Man advance to play in next week’s regional tourney.
Man’s regional is set for Saturday at Appalachian Bible College in Beckley. The Lady Billies have made it to the state tourney the past two seasons.
“Our practices have been much improved and I believe that had a lot to do with how we played last night along with a change in attitudes,” Man coach Orlando Washington said. “We need another good practice on Wednesday. Our goal is to repeat as sectional and regional champions. To do that we have to beat Greater Beckley Christian on Thursday which we have not done this year. We are 0-2 against them. I believe our team is a much different one than we were two weeks ago and that should help us along with having a chance to win a championship because that’s what we are playing for at the end of the day. This is just a real exciting time.”
