Man High School quarterback John Thomas Keffer and Chapmanville Regional High School volleyball’s Shian Meeks have been named this week as the Logan Banner Co-Athletes of the Week.
Keffer had a career day in the Hillbillies’ regular season finale last Friday in a 42-22 win at home over Van.
Keffer tossed six touchdowns and had 329 yards passing as he ripped the Van secondary apart. Keffer completed 17-for-24 passes and was intercepted once.
The win secured homefield advantage for the Hillbillies for the upcoming Class A playoffs beginning this Friday night where Man will play Tug Valley.
Meeks helped lead the Chapmanville volleyball team over the weekend to its first ever trip to the state tournament.
Chapmanville won the Class AA sectional championship last week with a victory over Tolsia and then traveled to Summersville on Saturday and beat Nicholas County.
In Saturday’s Class AA regional tourney at Nicholas County High School in Summersville, Chapmanville split in its matches to advance to state.
Chapmanville beat Nicholas County, 3-2, winning the match 13-25, 25-19, 25-20, 10-25, 15-13. The Lady Tigers then lost to Hoover, 3-1, by the scores of 21-25, 17-25, 25-11, 21-25.
The CRHS volleyball team is set to take on Philip Barbour on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Charleston Civic Center in the Class AA state tournament.
