Bragging rights will be on the line this Saturday with the Big 10-Cardinal Conference challenge at the West Virginia State University gym at Institute.
There will be a total of nine games that will be played — eight involving teams between the Cardinal and Big 10 Conferences.
The Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team will be a part of the all-day event as the Tigers (1-0) are scheduled to play Bridgeport (0-0) approximately at 6:30 p.m. in the season opener for the Indians.
Chapmanville opened its 2015-16 season on Tuesday with a 73-65 road win at Herbert Hoover.
The Tigers, coached by first-year mentor Brad Napier, were ranked No. 10 in the state in the Class AA preseason poll. Bridgeport was third.
The day’s tournament action begins with a non-Big 10-Cardinal Conference Challenge game as 3A Lincoln County takes on Liberty Harrison at 8 a.m.
Cardinal team Tolsia then squares off with North Marion at 9:30 a.m.
Wayne then plays Big 10 team Philip Barbour at 11 a.m.
The 12:30 p.m. game then pits Cardinal squad Herbert Hoover against East Fairmont.
Scott tips off with Big 10 team Grafton at 2 p.m.
Game No. 6 has preseason No. 9-ranked Mingo Central taking on No. 5 Robert C. Byrd.
Sissonville and No. 6-ranked Lincoln then play each other at 5 p.m. before the Chapmanville-Bridgeport contest.
The nightcap has No. 1-ranked and Class AA defending state champion Poca of the Cardinal Conference squaring off against No. 2-ranked Fairmont Senior in the featured game of the day.
Sophomore guard Drew Williamson paced the Chapmanville attack with 19 points in the win over the Herbert Hoover Huskies.
Tyler Moore dropped in 16 for the Tigers, while Jordan Whitt had 13, Kyle Browning 12 and Dylan Smith 10.
After playing Bridgeport, Chapmanville travels to Mingo Central on Dec. 22 for a conference game before hosting the annual Bob Runyon Memorial Holiday Tournament Dec. 28-29 at Danny Godby Gymnasium.
