The Chapmanville Middle School girls’ basketball team traveled to Man Middle School last Thursday night and came away with an easy 37-7 win over the Lady Pioneers.
The Lady Tigers were led by K.K. Davis with seven points followed by Charlie Mullins with six and Lauren Hines and Olivia Dalton with five each. Taylor Baisden and Hollee Blair had four each and Jayde Kuenzel, Kaylee Bowe and Cameron Dodrill each tossed in two points.
“We played a pretty good first half of basketball and we were able to get the reserves some playing time in the second half,” CMS coach Tommy Kirk said.
Cierra Mosley led Man with five points and Carlee Muncy had two.
The Lady Tigers then hosted Clay County in the CMS Girls Nationwide Insurance Showcase on Saturday and won 31-25.
CMS found itself in foul trouble early and trailed 14-12 at the half. Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter as the quarter ended tied up at 15.
Finally in the fourth quarter, both teams started to find their offense with the Lady Tigers coming out on top.
Hines led Chapmanville with 10 points. Davis had six, Blair four and Mullins, Dalton and Baisden had three each. Kuenzel had 2 points.
Our reserves really gave us some good minutes,” Coach Kirk said. “We shot the ball poorly and our foul shooting was just awful. It was ugly, but it’s a win.”
Next up is a battle with Boone County rival Madison Middle School on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Madison Civic Center.
In other results from the other games in the showcase: Harts defeated Oceana 42-39; Lenore beat Sherman 39-17; Williamson downed Duval 43-39; Kermit won over Van 18-17; and Wayne defeated Logan 47-35.
