Logan High School’s Braxton Goff has been named as the Logan Banner Athlete of the Week this week.
Goff, a 6-foot-4 guard, tossed in 20 points in Logan’s 65-45 win last Saturday night at home over Cabell Midland in the Wildcats’ home opener at Willie Akers Arena.
Logan coach Allan Hatcher said Goff played very well.
“Braxton is playing well,” Hatcher said. “He makes mistakes and does some things but I think that he’s one of our most improved players from last year. He’s worked on his shot and he does a great job driving with the ball. He’s a 6-foot-4 guard. The prettiest play in the game was against their 1-3-1 trap and he got the ball to Kahlil (Murphy) for a basket. That was the best play because that was team basketball. I just think that he’s going to get better and better.”
* The Wildcats are off until Dec. 28-29 when Logan is set to play in the Little General Shootout at Beckley Woodrow Wilson High School.
Logan is set to take on George Washington on Dec. 28 in the Beckley tourney. Logan will then take on either host Woodrow Wilson or Westside the next night.
Hatcher said Logan will be working on its free throw shooting over the layoff. The Cats didn’t shoot that well from the line vs. the Knights.
“We’re going to be spending some time at free throws,” Hatcher said. “We want to be able to be playing our best basketball in February and March. We’re going to work on free throw shooting and special situations like passing the ball. We need to become better passers, better ballhandlers and better free throw shooters.”
