MAN — The Man Middle School girls’ basketball team improved to 3-4 on the seasson with Tuesday night’s 31-19 win at home over Sherman.
Karissa Anderson had a team high 14 points for Man. Cierra Mosley had six points. Carlee Muncy chipped in with four points. Shania Kennedy followed with three points and Olivia Ramsey and Desiree Wise each had two points.
Sherman was led in scoring by Caroline Nelson with 11 points.
Back on December 21 before Christmas break, the Lady Pioneers won 19-14 over George Washington Middle School in a low-scoring game.
Anderson led Man Middle with eight points. Kristen Ellis had five points, while Kennedy, Muncy and Zoey Phillips each had two points.
Hailey Williams led George Washington with six points.
“We are a very young team experience wise,” Man Middle School coach Orlando Washington said. “Six out of our eight players are first-year middle school players. So they are learning something new each time out on the court. We are improving and picking up little things every day. We just have to keep working hard and impove upon everything relating to offensive basketball.”
Man had opened the season on Dec. 3 with a 19-11 loss to Van. Kennedy paced the Lady Pioneers with five points. Mosley had three, Muncy two points and Wise one point. Van was led in scoring by Abby Sampson’s 11 points.
On Dec. 10, Man dropped to 0-2 with a 40-15 loss to Duval. Anderson had four points to lead the Lady Pioneers. Mosley had three, while Kennedy, Muncy, Ramsey and Rileigh Bowen each had two points on the night.
On Dec. 11, Man fell to 0-3 on the season after a 46-19 loss to Logan Middle School. Kennedy had 12 points for Man. Ramsey had three and Wise and Ellis had two each. Logan Middle was led in scoring by Jill Tothe with 20 points.
Man notched its first win of the season on Dec. 14 after downing Poca 26-19. Kennedy was again the top scorer for Man with 11 points. Mosley had six points, Muncy four, Wise three and Anderson two. Madi Winell led Poca in scoring with nine points.
On Dec. 17, Man was routed by county rival Chapmanville Middle School in a 37-7 loss to the Lady Tigers. Mosley had five points for Man. Muncy had two. Charlie Mullins led Chapmanville with seven points.
