CHAPMANVILLE — Shian Meeks had a heck of a night on Thursday for the Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball taem.
Meeks, a senior forward, finished with a double-double and neared triple-double figures as she led the Lady Tigers to a 70-60 Cardinal Conference victory over the Herbert Hoover Huskies at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium.
Meeks pitched in 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and also dished out eight assists and had six steals as the Lady Tigers improved to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Chapmanville also got 16 points from Abby Marcum and a double-double from freshman Kaylee Blair, who had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Madison Webb, another Chapmanville freshman, pulled down 10 rebounds for CRHS.
Hoover, which fell to 4-8 overall, was led by Kari Harding’s game-high 28 points. Taylor Bailey and Hannah Schoolcraft tossed in 19 and 13 points respectively.
Chapmanville currently sits in fourth place in the Cardinal Conference.
Wayne (10-2, 6-0) is first, Sissonville (7-2, 4-0) is second and Tolsia (6-5, 5-1) is third.
In other conference action on Thursday night Wayne nipped county rival Tolsia, 51-49. Ariel Adkins had 16 points and Maddie Wilcox 14. Dena Jarrells had 31 points to lead Tolsia.
Chapmanville is scheduled to return to action with Tuesday’s home game against Sissonville. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be the first in a boys/girls doubleheader with the CRHS boys, which hosts Sissonville in the nightcap.
The Lady Tigers play at Tolsia on Jan. 20, at Mingo Central on Jan. 22 and at Sherman on Jan. 25 before hosting Wayne on Jan. 27.
Teays Valley Christian 38
The Man High School girls’ basketball team improved to 5-6 on the season with Thursday’s 48-38 win at Teays Valley Christian.
Morgan Muncy led the Lady Billies with an 18-point effort. Summer Combs had 13.
Teays Valley (6-6) was paced by Holly Edwards, who netted 18 points.
Man is scheduled to play at Sherman on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Man then hosts Montcalm on Jan. 22.
