Billies win over Mavs in MLK Classic

The Man High School basketball team is on a roll.

The Class A No. 10-ranked Hillbillies improved to 8-2 on the season with Monday’s 56-46 win over James Monroe in the Martin Luther King Classic basketball tournament at River View High School in Bradshaw.

Man had to rally to win.

The Billies outscored the Mavericks 23-11 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Man led 14-5 after one quarter and held an 11-point lead at the half before falling behind 35-33 after three periods of play.

Senior John Thomas Keffer paced the Billies with an 18-point effort. Gabby Brown had 17 points as well to lead Man. The two were honored after the game with Sportsmanship and Leadership awards.

Man, winners in five out of its last six games, was scheduled to play at No. 2-ranked Tug Valley on Tuesday night.

The Billies are slated to host Ambassador Christian School on Thursday night. Man then hosts Greater Beckley Christian on Jan. 28 before hosting Tug Valley in a rematch between the two schools on Feb. 5.

Man then takes on Paden City on Feb. 8 in the Little General Shootout at the Big House at the Charleston Civic Center in a 9:30 a.m. tip time.
