MAN — John Thomas Keffer’s play has been one of the reasons the Man High School boys’ basketball team is off to such a good start.
Keffer, who has led Man in scoring in several games this season, has been named as the Logan Banner Athlete of the Week this week.
Keffer, a 6-foot senior guard and three-sport standout for the Hillbillies, tossed in 18 points on Monday as he led Man to a 56-46 win over James Monroe in the Martin Luther Day Classic basketball tournment at River View High School in Bradshaw.
He’s scored 99 points for Man in the Billies’ last four games.
On Saturday at Williamson’s Hatfield-McCoy Shootout, Keffer pitched in 24 points in the Hillbillies’ 88-53 win over Betsy Layne (Ky.).
Last Friday in a 67-64 loss at county rival Chapmanville, Keffer was the Billies’ leading scorer with 31 points.
Back on Jan. 13 in a 71-66 win at home over Westside, Keffer pumped in 26 points, sharing game-high honors with Kenny Jo Adkins.
Man (8-2) was scheduled to return to the hardwood with Tuesday night’s road game at Tug Valley. It was to be the Billies’ fourth game in five days.
