Man shipped to new sectional with county rivals Logan, CRHS

Man High School was expected to compete in a Class AA sectional with Wyoming East and Westside next year in Region 3.

At least, that’s what the initial proposal was back in November.

Instead, Man has been shipped out to Region 4 and will tussle with county rivals Chapmanville Regional and Logan.

Won’t that be an interesting basketball sectional tourney next year.

The WVSSAC’s Board of Directors met on Monday and approved the new regional and sectional realignments starting with the 2016-2017 academic year and going through 2019-2020.

The final alignments were released on Monday afternoon.

Man’s switch was a bit of a surprise.

The original plan had Man going to Region 3.

Man High School will be dropping down to Class AA next school year. The Hillbillies have competed as a Single-A school for more than a decade.

Man, Chapmanville and Logan have been paired with Scott, Mingo Central and Lincoln County in a six-team Class AA Region 4 Section 2.

Logan and Lincoln County are dropping from 3A to 2A next season.

Wayne has been moved out to Class AA Region 4 Section 1 with Winfield, Nitro, Sissonville, Poca and Point Pleasant.

Winfield, Nitro and Point are also dropping to the Double-A level next school year.

Class AA Region 3 Section 1 will be made up of Westside, Wyoming East, Independence, Liberty Raleigh and Oak Hill.

Class AA Region 3 Section 2 will be comprised of Bluefield, James Monroe, Pikeview, River View, Shady Spring.

Tug Valley High School will compete in Region 4 Section 2 with Buffalo, Hannan, Sherman, Huntington St. Joe, Tolsia and Van.

Tolsia is dropping to Single-A next year.
