CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Middle School boys’ basketball team is having a great season.
The Tigers continued to roll with a pair of recent wins and improved to 14-2 on the season.
CMS won 60-40 last Saturday over Harts and also scored a recent 56-33 victory over Man Middle School.
In the win over county rival Man, the Tigers raced out to a 18-9 first quarter lead as Nathan White got things started with a 12-point outburst in the opening stanza.
Chapmanville never looked back.
“Nathan is a true big man with good moves with his back to the basket,” CMS coach Jody Harless said. “Nathan is also quick enough and handles the ball well enough that he can take slower big men off the dribble. He’s got several weapons at his disposal.”
The Tigers led 28-13 at halftime as Chapmanville’s first half press gave the Pioneers trouble all night long, forcing several turnovers and holding Man to only four points in the second quarter.
Philip Mullins finished with 14 points for CMS.
“Philip is a scorer. He can put points up in bunches,” Coach Harless said.
Isaac Dixon added 10 points for the Tigers.
“Isaac is a gifted athlete. He has great speed and acceleration. He’s improving all the time,” Harless said.
Reed Dingess had five points, Braxton Manns three and Payton Adams two.
Chapmanville earned a season series sweep over Harts with the win over the Lions. The Tigers led 26-8 after one quarter.
The second quarter saw the CMS reserves play the majority of the minutes as the Tigers led 40-12 at the half.
White led the Tigers with 14 points. Dixon had 10, Mullins and Payton Adams had eight each, Andrew Williams seven and Dingess six. Braxton Manns chipped in with three points and Josh Bumgarner and Sam Leslie had two each.
