Billies fall at Mount View 67-53

A strong second half powered the Mount View High School basketball team past the Man Hillbillies on Friday night at Welch as the Golden Knights won 67-53.

The Billies led 9-7 after one quarter and 27-26 at the half but were outscored 19-9 in the third as Mount View led 45-36. The Golden Knights then outpointed Man 22-17 in the fourth to put the game away.

Man, ranked No. 10 in the state in Class A, dropped to 13-5 on the season. Mount View improved to 5-11.

De’Moni Edwards and Joe Hayes each hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 and 12 points respectively. The Golden Knights were led by Kenneth Brown’s 17 points. Marquis Bonds also had double figures in scoring with 11 points.

Jaquane Imes and Ellis Bryson had four each, Elijah Collier had three and Sidney George two.

John Thomas Keffer paced the Hillbillies with 18 points. Cameron Simpson tossed in 13 and Jake Adkins 12. Gabby Brown had six and Kenny Jo Adkins four.

Man split the season series with Mount View. The Billies beat the Knights 52-50 at home in the season opener.

The Billies have four regular season games left and have three games in three days.

On Tuesday, Man travels to Westside. Then on Wednesday, the Billies go to River View. Man travels to Belfry (Ky.) on Thursday and hosts Chapmanville on Feb. 23 in the finale.

* The Logan High School boys’ basketball team’s game at Princeton on Friday night was canceled due to inclement weather.

No makeup date has been announced.

The Wildcats (7-9) host Westside on Monday night, then host Winfield on Thursday night.
