GOODY Ky. — The Logan High School girls’ basketball team has struggled most of the season.
But the Lady Cats have been dominant over their Belfry (Ky.) counterparts.
Logan made it a sweep of Belfry with Saturday night’s 54-43 win over the Lady Pirates at the Belfry High School gym in Goody, Ky.
Logan (5-14) had routed Belfry 52-25 earlier in the season at home.
The Lady Cats led Belfry 17-11 after one quarter, 27-22 at the half and 41-37 after three. A 13-7 fourth by Logan then put the game away.
Logan hit 15-of-20 free throws while Belfry made only 6-of-12.
Logan was led in scoring by 6-foot-2 senior all-state center Monica Mitchell, who scored 22 points. Brigette Duncan had nine, Jamyya Knox eight and Ally Sipple six.
Bre Welch and Ashton Spry had four each. Beth Adkins and Kaileah Williams chipped in with one point apiece for Logan.
Belfry was paced in scoring by Lena Hairston who had 10 points.
Mitchell also led Logan in rebounding with nine while Kaylea Stanley led Belfry with five.
Logan was scheduled to play at Winfield on Monday night, weather permitting. The Lady Cats are slated to host Tolsia on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
LHS is slated to play in the Class AAA sectional tournament next week at Spring Valley High School. It’s Logan last year as a Triple-A school.
Host Spring Valley, Cabell Midland, Huntington and Lincoln County are also in the sectional field.
