Wildcats, Billies notch wins

The rubber game went to the Logan Wildcats.

The Logan High School boys’ basketball team improved to 8-9 on the season and took the season series 2-1 with Westside after the Wildcats downed the Renegades 47-39 on Wednesday night in a makeup game at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.

Kyle Porter led Logan with a 20-point effort. Braxton Goff had 11.

The Cats led 13-12 after one quarter with Porter’s 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Westside then took an 18-16 lead into the locker room.

Porter then paced the Wildcats, hitting a quartet of 3s in the third quarter.

Logan had earlier lost 63-60 in overtime at Westside on Dec. 15 and beat the Renegades 48-24 on Dec. 29 in the Little General tourney at Beckley.

Logan was scheduled to host Winfield on Thursday night. The Cats then play at Wyoming East on Saturday night in a 7:30 p.m. tip. LHS then closes out with home games against Parkersburg on Feb. 23 and vs. Beckley Woodrow Wilson on Feb. 26.

The Parkersburg game is Senior Night for the Wildcats.

Man 69,

River View 65

The Man High School boys’ basketball team ran its record to 14-6 on the season with Wednesday’s 69-65 road win at River View.

John Thomas Keffer led the Hillbillies with 20 points. Kenny Jo Adkins had 15 and Cameron Simpson 13. Gabby Brown finished with 11. Jake Adkins had eight.

Man led 22-7 after one quarter and 33-22 at the half. River View outscored the Billies 22-15 in the third to pull to within 48-44.

The Raiders tied the game late at 56 but Man was able to outscore River View 13-9 the rest of the way.

Man was scheduled to play at Belfry (Ky.) on Thursday. The regular season finale is Feb. 23 at home vs. Chapmanville.
