Winning the sectional championship is the goal for the Chapmanville, Logan and Man high school girls’ basketball teams.

The Lady Tigers, Lady Cats and Lady Billies are scheduled to begin sectional play this week.

The Chapmanville Regional girls, 12-9 on the season, have the No. 2 seed for this week’s Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament at Logan High School and are scheduled to play No. 3 seed Tolsia (10-10) on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The Lady Tigers split with the Rebels this season, losing 60-46 at home and then winning 66-44 over Tolsia at Glenhayes.

The 2A sectionals are slated to begin on Monday with the play-in game featuring No. 4 seed Mingo Central (6-13) against No. 5 Scott (0-20).

The winner of the Mingo Central/Scott game advances to play No. 1 seed Wayne (16-4) on Wednesday at 6 p.m., also at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.

The two semifinal winners then advance to play in Thursday’s 7 p.m. sectional championship game. Both the winner and runner-up advance to next week’s regional tournament.

In Class AAA Region 4 Section 2, Logan (6-14) has the No. 5 seed and is scheduled to play at No. 4 seeded Lincoln County (8-11) on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln County High School gym in Hamlin.

Logan split with Lincoln County during the regular season, winning 55-45 at home and falling losing 57-42 on the road.

The 3A sectionals will then head to Spring Valley High School on Wednesday as No. 2 and host Spring Valley (10-8) takes on No. 3 Cabell Midland (14-7) at 5:30 p.m. The second semifinal at 7:30 p.m. has No. 1 seed and top-ranked Huntington (20-0) squaring off with the Logan/Lincoln County winner.

The two semifinal winners are set to play on Friday, Feb. 26 in the sectional championship game at 7 p.m.

Both the winner and runner-up teams then move on to play in the 3A regional tourney.

In the Class A sectional girls’ tournament, Man (6-11) is scheduled to open section play against Van (8-7) on Monday at 7 p.m. on the road. No. 6 Tug Valley (4-12) plays at No. 3 Montcalm (13-5). Sherman (9-8) has the No. 1 seed and Greater Beckley Christian (11-8) the No. 2 seed.

Man and Van played each other only once this season with the Lady Billies winning 38-32.

Like the 3A and 2A tourneys, the Class A sectional champ and runner-ups move on to the upcoming regional tournament.
